C is for Cough (are you effing kidding me)

So yesterday, remember, I was talking about my awesome meds and being all in a good place.  Scratch that.

I was minding my own business when out of nowhere, this tickle thing started in my throat.  Odd, probably allergies, no biggie.  Then, I coughed.

Oh, no.

One of my magic meds suppresses my immune system which on one hand is good, because apparently my immune system has some kind of self loathing issue and wants to kill me or just make me super miserable.  My immune system might be an asshole.  On the other hand, it’s bad because I’m susceptible to infections.

This cough was one of those ‘rattle your lungs’ kinds of cough.  Within an hour, I came down with the whole gambit of respiratory and sinus yuck.   It felt like my head might explode and I was coughing up what looked to be lung tissue or my kidneys.  Luckily, my doctor is on speed dial and within a few hours I had antibiotics.

Today, I’m taking a mulligan.  I’m going back to sleep for who knows how long.  Laughing make me cough so I definitely shouldn’t read Maple Syrup Land until I have this thing under control.  She’s hilarious.  Y’all should go see her.

Just give me a few hours.  I’ll check back in when I wake up.

American German – language lesson #34 (I think)

Shit. (shit) –  It’s the same word in English, only, it’s not a cuss word in Germany.  They use it like crap or oops.   Remind me to tell you about the time Margaret (76 year old German mother-in-law) yelled “Shit!” in church.

  2. awww I hope you get better . Hearing your grandmother yell ‘shit’ in church would definitely make me chortle.

  3. For some reason, I kept read the title as C is for Coffee. I guess that’s where my mind is. Hope you’re feeling better!

Hi Lola. I’m doing much better, thank you. A few more days of antibiotics and I’ll be as good as new!

  4. Awww, that sucks! Feel better soon and I’m glad the antibiotics are kicking in

And thank you for the shout-out! I’ll try not to make you laugh yourself into a coughing fit for the next couple days 😀

Thank you and thanks for stopping by! They are working quickly. If Alexander Fleming had twitter and hadn’t died like 60 years ago, I’d thank him in person.

Awaiting moderation?? I have no idea where that came from!

Hi Jen! It was holding your comment until I made sure you weren’t an internet serial killer or something. You checked out! It’s not fool proof though.

  7. That sounds like an interesting story! I think the worst thing to ever come out of my MIL’s mouth was “Damn!”, and that was when she either burned herself or nearly cut off her finger while in the kitchen. (I can’t remember which.)

It’s part of the fun of having a German husband and German mother-in-law, there’s bound to be language/culture mix ups every now and then. Every so often, it’s hilarious…at least from my perspective.
