N is for Numb

Yesterday, I was going to write about my hometown of Miami, Oklahoma, but since I’m always behind and trying to play catch up, I was still writing when the tragic events happening in Boston started to unfold.

After that, I couldn’t wrap my brain around much of anything.  Miami will be a topic for another day.   My thoughts and prayers are with the people in Boston.

It’s truly incredible to witness people running toward danger to help others – literally placing themselves in harms way to assist a stranger.   Those are amazing stories.  That’s where I’m trying to put my attention for now.

Otherwise, I’m dumbfounded.

I was raised in Oklahoma.  I moved from Oklahoma City to Arkansas in 1994.   April 19, 1995, the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City was bombed.  My family lived in OKC.  My friends were there.  My roots are firmly planted in Oklahoma and I was shaken to the core.  Over the course of what seemed like an eternity, my family members were all accounted for.  Many families didn’t get the same news.  I have never made any sense out of that day and I never will.  Yesterday, it all came flooding back.  My heart broke for the people in Boston as well as their families all over the world – waiting and hoping.

What kind of stupid, warped, fucked up, insanity…I won’t be able to make sense out of this day either.

  1. I agree with you about the insanity of it all. That goodness for the kind and brave souls who helped, and continue to help bring another up. Perfect language lesson, by the way.

Thanks Tommia. I’ve been thinking of that Mister Rogers quote all day, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” So true.

  2. There are some sick, sick people out there. I was thinking about Oklahoma a lot yesterday. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

  3. The insanity of the world is increasing. Praying for all those people out there who’s going through this!
