Z is for Zurückschalten – My German word for switcheroo – close enough.

As long as I post this before midnight, I win!  Last A to Z Challenge post!

I love the song You Are My Sunshine.  That song has been sung to me since I can remember.  My daughter would say the same.  Volker didn’t grow up hearing this song but while we dated and I was being all perfect, I worked it into his brain.  I made him cards

Yep. I made that.

Yep. I made that.

And this crafty thing

I had to use power tools to make this one, y'all. Suck it, Martha.

And a scrapbook

I have a whole book of these. Did you just throw-up a little?

English and German.  I have a whole book of these.  Did you just throw-up a little?

He thought he was getting such a sweet, thoughtful woman that spent her free time knitting scarfs, cutting and gluing hand made cards, painting him little sweet something or others…I made him a lot of shit during the dating phase.

PSYCH!  Now he’s lucky if I make him some dinner.  I still occasionally turn out some crafting genius, just not with the same frequency.

I made him a quilt.  That shit is hard.  So, I spread the love out over time.  He opened the quilt topper for Christmas 2011.  I had it quilted for his birthday in August and finally, for Christmas 2012, I finished binding it and he got to open it for the third time.  You are welcome.   I know.  I’m the best wife ever!

The topper. That's worth like 500 sweet and thoughtful gestures.

Then, I made him this hat.

Poor guy. He rocked it like a trooper - a cone-headed trooper - only he's not from France (SNL reference - nothing against French people. Baguettes rock.)

If you’re thinking that I purposely made him a hat that made him look like a Dan Aykroyd character so he wouldn’t long for the days he was dating this perfect woman that made him awesome lovey-dovey crap all the time – you have no proof.

One project a year keeps him pretty happy now.

Oh, You Are My Sunshine, my husband had it made into a ring for  me.  German and English.  Great.  I’m going to have to step up my game.  Later,  I’m still riding the quilt train.

American German – language lesson #54

Du bist mein Sonnenschein (do bist mine son-nen-shine) You are my sunshine.

Awww. I know.

Awww. I know.

  1. Cool word! In German and English. I was making a list of fun English words and I’ll need to note switcharoo.

I used to complain that my hubby stopped bringing me flowers and meeting me for lunch once we were married, but really I did nothing in return while we were dating. Look at you knitting and quilting! Ooh, maybe I was arm candy. Ha! Not!

Congrats on completing the challenge! It was wackadoodle!

  5. Dude whenever I try to make a sweet gesture for a guy I’m dating, he runs for the hills. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Oh, right, I’m dating assholes. Almost forgot for a second.

Seriously though, GOOD JOB ON THE BAIT AND SWITCH. Of course no one expects you to keep making an effort now that you’re married — that’s what marriage is for, right? Idk, I’ve never been married cause guys keep disappearing at the sight of my hideous scarves and deformed baked goods. I should find a guy who loves me for my mind. Or at least my boobs, while they’re still perky.

Oh my god, I love you (and I’m a catch – sadly, I’m taken.) STOP DATING ASSHOLES and play up the perky boobs. Holy shit, I should start an advice day on my blog.

  6. The only thing that men get from me, is fear! You’re putting the rest of us female-kind to shame with your thoughtfulness and love…stop it!
I do love that quilt topper though and the ring is such a wonderful and loving gesture. Together, you guys rock!

Congrats on finishing the challenge. FREE AT LAST! 🙂

Ok, ok, I’ll stop! I’m too tired anyway. AND with all this blogging, I have no time. I can’t believe I actually got through this challenge! WOOHOO!! I actually posted this at 11:59 p.m. – on the nose!

  7. You made a quilt? Heck, that’s some serious pioneer woman type skills you’ve got going on there!

My mom was super-powered and made countless.

My family would be so screwed if we lived in pioneer times!! I’d be all, “Where do I plug this sewing machine in?”
